EngenderHealth’s 2030 Strategy: A Vision for Equity, Care, and Resilience
For over 50 years, EngenderHealth has championed gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), implementing programs that have delivered high-quality care to millions across more than 100 countries. From increasing access to contraception and comprehensive abortion care to addressing gender-based violence and maternal and newborn health, we have worked hand in hand with governments and civil society to advance rights and improve lives.
What began generations ago as a focus on contraception has evolved into a holistic, intersectional approach to gender equality. We strengthen clinical systems, build local capacity, and co-design sustainable, community-led programs that center the needs of women, girls, and marginalized populations. Our work integrates SRHR with broader health and development priorities, recognizing the complexity of people’s lives and the structural barriers they face.
Today, our mission is more urgent than ever. The closure of USAID and widespread global funding cuts threaten decades of hard-won progress in public health, gender justice, and civil society. Meanwhile, the world faces overlapping crises: democratic backsliding, climate shocks, humanitarian emergencies, and increasing restrictions on bodily autonomy. These challenges demand bold, locally led solutions—and a reimagined approach to global development that centers equity, accountability, and power-sharing.
EngenderHealth’s 2030 Strategy responds to this pivotal moment. We are deepening our investment in equitable partnerships, elevating local leadership, and adapting our models to ensure resilience and relevance in the face of uncertainty. In a time when the very idea of global cooperation and human rights is being questioned, we are choosing to double down on our purpose—clarifying not just what we do, but why and how we do it. This strategy affirms our promises of solidarity, humility, and the belief that transformative change is still possible. We remain committed to advancing SRHR not as a standalone issue, but as a cornerstone of gender equality, justice, and health for all.
Despite a transformed landscape, our purpose is unwavering. We will continue to stand with communities most affected by injustice and act in solidarity with those working to defend rights and save lives. Together with our partners, we are building a future where everyone—regardless of who they are or where they live—can access the care, dignity, and opportunity they deserve.
