Maternal and Newborn Health
At EngenderHealth, we believe that every pregnancy deserves respectful, high-quality care. Our maternal and newborn health programs support the health of mothers and babies from preconception through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. We strengthen health systems to provide integrated, people-centered maternal care that ensures safe, dignified outcomes for women, newborns, and families.
We advance maternity health care through a comprehensive approach that includes:
- Prenatal care (also known as antenatal care) to monitor and support healthy pregnancies
- Emergency obstetric care for life-threatening complications during labor and delivery
- Safe surgical obstetric care, including cesarean sections and fistula repair
- Essential postnatal care for mothers and newborns
- Increased access to information, counseling, and voluntary contraceptive services
Our work improves the health of mothers by ensuring that they can access the care they need—when, where, and how they need it.
We collaborate with healthcare providers and facilities to deliver high-quality maternal care that is responsive, respectful, and rooted in gender equity.
With decades of experience in global maternal health, including over 15 years leading programs focused on obstetric fistula prevention and treatment, we bring proven solutions to scale. Our previous initiatives—such as the USAID-funded Fistula Care, Fistula Care Plus, and MOMENTUM Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics—demonstrate our lasting impact in advancing safe, equitable maternity health care.
For many women, pregnancy is their first encounter with the healthcare system. EngenderHealth ensures this entry point is an opportunity—not just for safer childbirth—but for improving women’s lifelong sexual and reproductive health, from adolescence through menopause.
