Clinical Programming
Strengthening Healthcare Systems from Within
EngenderHealth works from within health systems, not around them, to improve access to and quality of healthcare services. Our clinical programming supports high-quality, respectful care across sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence prevention and response, maternal and newborn health, and other emerging health priorities.
We embed clinical expertise within existing health system structures, policies, and processes so improvements can be sustained over time. We strengthen health systems without replacing them.

What Guides Our Clinical Work
EngenderHealth is committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender equality. We support people in making free, informed decisions about their health, bodies, and futures so they can live the lives they want.
Our work takes a holistic, service-integrated, “whole site” approach to quality healthcare. This means working at each level of the health system to improve the availability, accessibility, acceptability, and quality of health services; promote the use of high-impact and promising practices; and ensure local ownership and sustainability.

How We Strengthen Clinical Care Across the Health System
EngenderHealth works with healthcare providers, local and regional health systems, government partners, and referral networks to strengthen clinical care across the health system.
We strengthen clinical care by supporting:
- Healthcare providers in facilities and communities to build clinical and related skills that support high-quality, inclusive care
- Local and regional health systems to improve quality assurance and quality improvement mechanisms
- Government partners and decision-makers to ensure policies, laws, guidelines, and budgets reflect global best practices
- Referral systems between levels of care to strengthen coordination and wraparound support for clients
EngenderHealth is experienced in translating evidence-based health guidelines into practical, scalable, and cost-effective approaches through training, mentorship, and quality improvement initiatives.

Advancing Inclusive, Respectful Care
EngenderHealth helps health systems close equity gaps by integrating gender, youth, and social inclusion principles into service delivery. This helps people who face the greatest barriers to care access critical sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence prevention and response, and maternal and newborn health services.
This includes supporting respectful maternal care, client-centered contraceptive counseling, and inclusive services for young people, people with disabilities, and other underserved communities.
