EngenderHealth Announces Three New Board Members 

June 10, 2024 (WASHINGTON) – EngenderHealth is pleased to announce that three exceptional leaders have joined the organization’s Board of Directors. New members Amadou Mahtar Ba, Veni Dhir, and Sheila Nyawira Macharia have decades of leadership and experience in international business, public health, and advocating for women’s economic empowerment, youth involvement, and gender equality.  

EngenderHealth Board Chair Linda Rosenstock said, “We are thrilled by the addition of these new board members. All are leaders in their respective fields, and all are deeply committed to EngenderHealth’s work on sexual and reproductive health and rights.”

Amadou Mahtar Ba is a co-founder and Executive Chairman of AllAfrica Global Media, Inc., the largest content service provider of African news worldwide. Ba sits on several boards and international working groups including the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment, the World Economic Forum’s Network of Global Future Councils, the African Democratic Institute, and the Africa Policy Advisory Board for the ONE Campaign. He also served on the panel of judges for the CNN African Journalist Award. 

Veni Dhir is a director at ADP Ventures, focusing on investing in startups that are shaping the future of work. Originally from Singapore, Dhir brings a global perspective to her role. 

From 2022 to 2023, Dhir worked in corporate development at Nextdoor. Previously, she held positions as an investment professional at Industrial Growth Partners, Explorer Acquisitions, and Palladium Equity Partners. Dhir began her career in investment banking, focusing on mergers and acquisitions at Houlihan Lokey. Dhir has previously served on the boards of Girls Inc. of the Island City and the Metro NY Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women. At Stanford, she was involved with Stanford Women on Boards. 

Dr. Sheila Nyawira Macharia is the Managing Director for the FP2030 East and Southern Africa Regional Hub. She is a public health expert, with extensive experience in adolescent health; family planning; reproductive health; and maternal, newborn, and child health. Macharia also serves on the board of directors for the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Global Programs. She has previously been a strategy advisor on assignments for USAID Washington, USAID Malawi, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Government of Kenya, where she developed health program strategies, formulated policy recommendations, and evaluated global health activities.
