Sheila Nyawira Macharia
Dr. Sheila Nyawira Macharia is the Managing Director for the FP2030 East and Southern Africa Regional Hub. She is a public health expert, with extensive experience in the fields of adolescent health; family planning; reproductive health; and maternal, newborn, and child health. Macharia has a master of public health and a fellowship in population and development from Johns Hopkins University. She is also a recipient of the Marjorie Horn Award from the U.S. Agency for International Aid (USAID) for “Sustained leadership and tireless efforts moving Family Planning/Reproductive Health evidence to practice.”
Macharia also serves on the board of directors for the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Global Programs. She has previously been a strategy advisor on assignments for USAID Washington, USAID Malawi, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Government of Kenya, where she developed health program strategies, formulated policy recommendations, and evaluated global health activities.
