Providing Essential Services for Internally Displaced Persons in a Humanitarian Context: Insights from EngenderHealth’s Project in the Afar Region of Ethiopia

EngenderHealth’s UNICEF-funded project in the Afar region provided critical insights into effective strategies for gender-based violence prevention and response in humanitarian contexts in Ethiopia and beyond. By strengthening existing resources and systems to provide holistic support to survivors, increasing community engagement, and improving stakeholder coordination, this project fostered resilience and support for the most vulnerable populations. As Ethiopia continues to navigate complex crises, including compounding crises related to conflict and displacement, applying lessons shared within this brief can help future humanitarian activities ensure the dignity, rights, and safety of all individuals, particularly women and girls, are upheld.
