Integrating Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response into Family Planning Services in Tanzania

EngenderHealth’s Scaling Up Family Planning (SuFP) programme strengthened the identification of and support for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) by integrating screening and referral services into routine family planning care across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. The programme supported GBV screening for more than 2.1 million clients, trained 438 service providers, and strengthened referral networks connecting survivors to healthcare, psychosocial, legal, and protection services. This project brief shares key results, lessons learned, and practical recommendations for integrating gender-based violence prevention and response into existing health services and strengthening survivor-centered care.
