At a Crossroads: SRHR in the Context of Fertility Decline

What happens when fertility decline becomes a political priority? How could falling birth rates reshape reproductive health policy and funding?

Concerns about changing fertility patterns are rapidly reshaping political and public debate, with growing implications for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

EngenderHealth and PRB’s new report, At a Crossroads: SRHR in the Context of Fertility Decline, examines how fertility decline narratives are already shaping political and funding discussions, where policy pressures are emerging, and how SRHR organizations and advocates can respond to protect health and rights.

Drawing on perspectives from government, civil society, researchers, health providers, donors, and regional and global organizations, the findings point to a narrow but critical window to act before emerging narratives harden into policy and erode hard-won gains.
