EngenderHealth Welcomes Nomination of Amb. Samantha Power as USAID Administrator

January 13, 2021 (Washington, DC)—EngenderHealth welcomed the announcement today by US President-elect Joe Biden that he will nominate Amb. Samantha Power as Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

USAID is an important donor and key strategic partner for EngenderHealth in our mission to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and to improve gender equality, around the world. Power brings a wealth of experience that will inform her leadership of USAID at a critical time for the agency. Working across multiple sectors in key leadership positions, including notably as the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Power has been a tireless voice advocating for human rights, global health, and democracy.

EngenderHealth looks forward to continuing to work with USAID under Power’s leadership to support our shared missions of working with families, communities, and countries around the world to advance SRHR.

About EngenderHealth

EngenderHealth envisions a gender-equal world where all people achieve their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). To reach that vision, we implement high-quality, gender-equitable programs that advance SRHR, which we define broadly to include contraceptive counseling and services, maternal health, comprehensive sexuality education, gender-based violence prevention and counseling, comprehensive abortion care, and more. EngenderHealth collaborates with governments, private sector partners, international experts, and local organizations and communities to reach marginalized groups—including girls, women, and gender minorities; adolescents and youth; people with disabilities; economically disadvantaged groups; and rural and other hard-to-reach populations. www.engenderhealth.org
