EngenderHealth Responds to U.S. Senate Rescissions Bill Targeting Global Reproductive Health Funding

WASHINGTON, DC, July 17, 2025 — EngenderHealth shares deep concern and disappointment following the U.S. Senate’s passage of a rescissions bill that includes a $500 million cut to the Global Health Programs account—specifically targeting funding for family planning and reproductive health.

While we welcome the protection of funding for PEPFAR, this decision to move forward with targeted cuts to essential health services undermines decades of global progress and partnership.

“The U.S. Senate’s decision to cut $500 million from global health—specifically targeting family planning and reproductive health—is a significant step backward. At a time when the need is urgent and the evidence is clear, these cuts undermine decades of progress in advancing health, dignity, and rights worldwide,” said Traci L. Baird, President and CEO of EngenderHealth.

We extend our sincere thanks to Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who introduced amendments in attempts to preserve international family planning funding, support UNFPA, and protect maternal and child health programs. Their leadership underscores the importance of continued U.S. engagement in global health grounded in equity, evidence, and care.

EngenderHealth remains steadfast in our mission and united with partners around the world to ensure that everyone—everywhere—can access the care they deserve.
