EngenderHealth Partners with Absa Bank Tanzania to Support COVID-19 Response Efforts by the Government of Tanzania
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, frontline health workers have been the first and last line of defense. Ensuring they are protected and that communities have confidence in accessing public health services is critical to reducing the widespread effects of COVID-19 on health systems in the countries where EngenderHealth works.
In Tanzania, EngenderHealth has been working with the government, local organizations, health facilities, and the private sector to strengthen health systems for sexual and reproductive healthcare for over 30 years. On May 28, 2021, EngenderHealth partnered with Absa Bank Tanzania to support the government in distributing 15 million TZS worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 27 health facilities in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Our partnership with Absa Bank Tanzania supports the recent recommendations from the Government of Tanzania’s new presidential task force on COVID-19 around ensuring that frontline health workers have the necessary tools to respond to COVID-19 cases.
Absa Bank Tanzania has played a significant role in financing the healthcare system to reduce the impacts of the pandemic. Ultimately, this partnership aims to promote continued health service delivery to ensure that Tanzania remains open for business. EngenderHealth looks forward to engaging in further private sector partnerships to support national and local COVID-19 response and other health, gender, and youth empowerment initiatives. We extend our deepest appreciation to Absa Bank Tanzania CEO/Managing Director Abdi Mohamed and his team for their support and collaboration.
