EngenderHealth Expands Its Global Leadership Team

April 19, 2017—New York. EngenderHealth, a leading international women’s health organization, is delighted to announce new senior staff joining its global leadership team—Mwemezi Ngemera, Regional Representative for East Africa, and Lauren Wolkoff, Global Director of Communications & Marketing. Mwemezi is a recognized expert in leading maternal and child health programs and managing health systems in Tanzania. Lauren is a veteran of strategic communications, journalism, and publications management in the global women’s health and medical arenas.

“I am thrilled that Mwemezi and Lauren are on board as we embark on a new chapter in our organization’s nearly 75 year history. They both have deep expertise and passion for EngenderHealth’s mission that will benefit women and girls first,” said Ulla Müller, President and CEO.

Most recently, Mwemezi worked as Director of Health Systems and Management at Marie Stopes International (MSI) in Tanzania. In this capacity, he oversaw a team in health management information systems, research, monitoring and evaluation, and clinical quality that provided technical support to 11 clinics and more than 24 outreach teams. Prior to MSI, Mwemezi served as Director for Maternal and Sexual and Reproductive Health at Care International and Deputy Chief of Party for the AIDSRelief project at Catholic Relief Services. In both roles, Mwemezi mobilized crucial resources and partnerships and oversaw large sexual and reproductive health programs, including HIV and AIDS. Mwemezi has a master’s degree in Health Management, Planning and Policy from the University of Leeds and a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Dar-es-Salaam University.

Lauren most recently served as Communications Director at Family Planning 2020 (FP2020), where she led internal and external communications through the initiative’s strategic review process, working to strengthen existing partnerships and help build new ones. Under her leadership, the FP2020 brand flourished into the recognized global movement it is today. Her work involved liaising with FP2020’s partners to coordinate global messaging and align communications, in addition to overseeing a team to manage a full portfolio including content development, social media, branding, events, executive communications, and media relations. Prior to FP2020, Lauren served as Communications Director for Georgetown University Medical Center and Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Fluent in Spanish, Lauren also worked as a reporter and researcher in Latin America, conducting research for the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) in Bogotá, Colombia.
