EngenderHealth Announces Nene Fofana-Cissé as Regional Representative for West and Central Africa

September 5, 2018 (Washington, DC and Abidjan) — EngenderHealth, a global women’s health and sexual and reproductive rights organization, is pleased to welcome Nene Fofana-Cissé as the new Regional Representative for West and Central Africa.

Fofana-Cissé will provide clinical and technical guidance and program operations support to activities across West and Central Africa. Together with EngenderHealth’s regional representatives in Asia and East Africa, she will play a key role in EngenderHealth’s strategic initiatives that aim to empower local leadership in developing and delivering high-quality programming. Based in Abidjan, she will guide and support country offices therefore enhancing local innovations and facilitating ownership and accountability for success and sustainability.

EngenderHealth Vice President of Programs, Mustafa Kudrati, said, “Nene’s technical expertise, management experience, and passion for improving the lives of women and girls in West and Central Africa uniquely position her to serve in this critical role for the organization. With her understanding of how health programs function from both headquarters and field perspectives, she will serve as a pivotal link between our new Washington D.C. headquarters and our project teams leading implementation at the country and community levels throughout the region.

For more than a decade, Fofana-Cissé has provided technical leadership and regional management support for international health programs. She brings significant expertise and experience with programs addressing sexual and reproductive health, including contraception, safe abortion, and postabortion care, as well as maternal and child health, and HIV.

“Growing up in Côte d’Ivoire, I have an intimate understanding of the aspirations and challenges faced by women and girls in West Africa” said Fofana-Cissé. “I am eager to support and strengthen EngenderHealth’s essential work as I assume this new and exciting role.”

She comes to EngenderHealth after ten years with Population Services International (PSI) where she served most recently as a Senior Regional Advisor overseeing programming in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Mali, and Niger. Fofana-Cissé previously served as PSI’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Technical Advisor in Mali and as PSI’s headquarters-based Associate Technical Advisor for HIV and Tuberculosis. She earned a master of public health from The George Washington University and speaks English and French fluently.
