Infection Prevention Practices in Emergency Obstetric Care

General infection prevention practices, which are needed to reduce risk and the spread of infections during clinical services, are addressed in detail in Infection Prevention: A Reference Booklet for Health Care Providers. This emergency obstetric care (EmOC) guide, which is designed for use in conjunction with the infection prevention handbook, provides information about options and acceptable modifications to routine practice during emergency situations, with a focus on EmOC. Guidelines for specific EmOC and newborn care procedures are also provided.

The development of this booklet was supported by the Averting Maternal Death and Disability (AMDD) Program at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
