Gender Matters, Week 1
Gender Matters (or "Gen.M") is a teen pregnancy prevention program in Austin, Texas, that reaches youth ages 14-16. These two videos cover the first week of workshops. The first video covers the first two days of the workshop, which examine gender messages and healthy relationships. The second video covers the final three days of the workshop, which explore the realities of teen parenting, sexual decision-making, and ways to prevent pregnancy and STIs. A longer documentary with video footage from the workshops will be available in September 2012.
EngenderHealth launched the 5-year Gender Matters project in 2011, with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and in partnership with Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, SafePlace, and the Travis County Summer Youth Employment Program. Gender Matters builds on EngenderHealth's pioneering work with men across 26 countries through the Gender & Men As Partners program.
