Paul Hinks

Paul Hinks is the Chief Executive Officer of Symbion Power, an independent power producer working in Africa. Founded in 2005, Symbion is the culmination of Mr. Hinks’ life work in the power industry. He has lived and worked in Africa for almost 30 years and has been responsible for the construction of many power plants, transmission and distribution lines, and substations. In March 2012, Mr. Hinks was elected chairman of the Corporate Council on Africa, the largest organization in the United States that promotes trade and investment between the U.S. and Africa. He held this position until March 2016. Currently, he is serving as chairman of Invest Africa USA. Mr. Hinks is also a member of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Private Capital Group for Africa Partners Forum, a unit of USAID that was established to support private-sector development in Africa.

Born and raised in England, Mr. Hinks trained in Manchester as an engineering apprentice for the UK’s state power generation and transmission utility, the Central Electricity Generating Board. When he is not in Africa or the Middle East, he splits his time between Symbion headquarters in Washington, D.C., and his base in New York City.
