Joseph Hafey is the President Emeritus of the Public Health Institute (PHI), an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health, well-being, and quality of life for people in the United States and around the world. Mr. Hafey oversaw the Institute and its earlier incarnations (the California Public Health Foundation and its sister organization the Western Consortium for Public Health). In each of his roles, Mr. Hafey was responsible managing domestic and international projects in research, training and continuing education, and community development. PHI partners with state and local public health agencies, foundations, provider groups, community-based organizations, and scientists to implement specialized programs to address a broad spectrum of health issues. Mr. Hafey was also instrumental in founding the California Healthy Cities Program and the Public Health Leadership Institute and is a co-founder of the Public Health Trust. He has a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of California-Los Angeles and has served as a lecturer at UCLA, UC Berkeley, and Harvard University.
