EngenderHealth Announces Three New Board Members

Dr. Akudo Anyanwu, Dr. Kimberly D. Gregory, and Thomas Kisimbi

June 10, 2021 (Washington, DC)—Three outstanding leaders have joined the Board of Directors of EngenderHealth, bringing decades of leadership in global health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and public health. The three new members announced today are: Dr. Akudo Anyanwu, Dr. Kimberly D. Gregory, and Thomas Kisimbi.

EngenderHealth Board Chair, Dr. Linda Rosenstock, said, “The addition of these three new members will help the EngenderHealth Board continue to support the organization in the years ahead as we implement our unique vision of a gender-equal world where all people achieve their sexual and reproductive health and rights. Dr. Akudo Anyanwu, Dr. Kimberly D. Gregory, and Thomas Kisimbi each bring significant expertise in EngenderHealth’s core areas of impact; their insights will be invaluable to the Board in guiding EngenderHealth’s work.”

Dr. Akudo AnyanwuDr. Akudo Anyanwu is an award-winning global health expert, public health innovator, and social entrepreneur with more than 17 years of experience in the field of international development. She currently serves as Vice President of Development at Texas Biomedical Research Institute and previously served as Associate Dean for Development at Johns Hopkins University. She has served on the boards of Roll Back Malaria, the Global Health Council, and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. She is also the founder of Friends Africa, a pan-African organization that fights AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria by mobilizing African businesses, governments, and NGOs. Anyanwu holds an MD from Tufts University, an MPH from Harvard University’s School of Public Health, and a BS in Molecular Biology from Lehigh University. She has received multiple awards and honors, including Tufts University’s Distinguished Service Award (2015), Harvard School of Public Health’s Innovator of the Year (2013), Ogunte’s Social Leader of the Year (2013), and the Stevie Innovator and Social Entrepreneur of the Year (2012). She joined the EngenderHealth Board during a meeting held this week.

Dr. Kimberly D. Gregory is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) and maternal-fetal medicine, and maintains an active clinical practice in high-risk obstetrics. Based in Los Angeles, she is Vice Chair of Women’s Healthcare Quality & Performance Improvement and the Helping Hand Chair in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. In addition, she is an OB/GYN professor, with a joint appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Gregory has served in various leadership positions, including the U.S. Public Health Services Prevention Task Force, the Institute of Medicine Committee on Preventive Services for Women, the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Board of Directors, various committees for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, California Maternal Mortality Review Committee, National Quality Forum, and numerous health and public policy committees at the state and national level. Gregory holds an MD, having completed medical training at the Charles Drew University of Medicine & Science/UCLA Medical Education Program, an MPH from Harvard University’s School of Public Health, and a BS from UCLA. She joined the EngenderHealth Board during the previous meeting, held in October 2020.

Thomas KisimbiThomas Kisimbi is a senior public health expert based in Nairobi who has more than 17 years of experience driving large-scale transformative change, working in partnership with governments on a variety of health issues including reproductive health, maternal and child health, community health, health systems strengthening, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, across Africa, parts of Asia, and Latin America, with organizations including the Clinton Foundation, KPMG, Oliver Wyman Health, and The Aspen Institute. He has served as a key advisor to top government officials in multiple governments on their ambitious strategic health plans. He has supported the institutionalization of data-driven decision-making and strengthened collaborations among private-public partnerships, governments, development partners, donors, academics, and other stakeholders to release hundreds of millions of dollars for impact. Kisimbi graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing and The Wharton School with nursing and business degrees. He is currently pursuing Master’s degrees in public policy and an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy, Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He joined the EngenderHealth Board during a meeting held this week.
