Who is the audience for the online courses?
These courses are designed for health
care providers (doctors, nurses, midwives, medical officers, and
other staff), supervisors of health facilities, regional supervisors,
Ministry of Health officials, students, and trainers. Trainers may
choose to use all or part of these courses for their own online
training or as resource material for training in a traditional classroom
or clinical setting.
How do I get started?
You may begin any course online or download
any of the courses by clicking on the links that appear under the
course names on the Online Courses index
page.
How are the courses arranged?
Each course is divided into modules,
or chapters. We recommend reviewing the modules in the order in
which they appear on the course home page, but you may review them
in any order you prefer.
The three Topics in Reproductive Health
"minicourses" are also designed to be reviewed in order.
After reviewing the introduction to the minicourses, A
Sexual and Reproductive Health Approach, we recommend reviewing
first the Sexuality and Sexual Health course, then the Sexually
Transmitted Infections Course, and finally the HIV and AIDS course.
However, these minicourses may be reviewed in any order you prefer.
Do I need to complete an entire course all
at one time?
While we recommend reviewing the modules
in each course in order, you may take all or any part of any of
the courses at any time. You can review an entire course all at
once, or you can review part of a course and then come back at a
later time. You can also download
the courses so that you can review them offline at any time
without being connected to the Internet.
How do I get from one page to the next?
The navigation for the online courses
is designed to be as simple as possible, while providing a number
of options for getting around quickly. You can access all elements
of each course from the course home page. You may want to bookmark
the course home page in your Web browser so that you can return
to it directly whenever you want to resume reviewing the course.
Navigational aids appear at the top and bottom of every page within
each module. At the top of every page is a banner containing the
name of the module and a series of either numbers or dots. These
numbers or dots represent the pages in the module. In the Topics
in Reproductive Health courses, you can navigate through the module
by clicking on the page numbers in the banner; you can jump to any
particular page, or you can click through the pages sequentially.
The banner also provides links to the course home page, the course
Help section, and, in the Topics in Reproductive Health Courses,
the next page of the module.
At the bottom of every page are a "Next
Page" link and a "Next" icon. In the Topics in Reproductive Health
Courses, the "Next" icon on the last page of each module takes you
to the first page of the next module.

Each of the three Topics in Reproductive Health courses also contain
an Index, which you can use to move directly to a particular section
of the course. The Index is arranged by module and topic. A link
for the Index for each course appears on the home page and at the
bottom of most of the other pages in each course.
What are the special course features?
Many of the modules contain special
features designed to be used after you have read the content of
the module. However, you can review them at any time. These features
include:
- Quizzes: The brief quizzes
that appear at the end of most modules provide an opportunity
to test what you have learned after reviewing the module. The
quizzes are optional, and you can skip a quiz by clicking the
"Next Page" link, the "Next" icon, or the numbered link
for the next page. You may retake the quizzes as often as you
like. If you are connected to the Internet when you take the quizzes,
you will be given a numerical scoring of your answers. If you
are not connected to the Internet when taking the quizzes, your
scores will not be computed automatically. However, whether completing
the quizzes while online or offline, you will be given the correct
response for each question.
- Case Studies: These cases
allow you to apply what you have learned in a course to real-world
situations.
- Making It Work: This
feature is designed to help you find ways to apply the content
of the module to your everyday work. This section includes educational
and other resource materials designed for you to print and share
with clients and co-workers.
Links to all the Case Studies and Making
It Work sections for each course are provided on the course's home
page.
What are the optional links?
Some pages also contain links to information
that is more in-depth than or is tangential to the topic presented
in the module. Often these links contain tables or detailed lists
that may pertain to only a small number of users. These links are
identified by the following symbol and a brief description of the
link's content:

Do I have to be online to complete the courses?
Although the courses are designed to
be accessible for users in low-bandwidth settings, some usersparticularly
those in developing world countriesmay have difficulty completing
these courses online. Therefore, these courses can also be downloaded
for offline use and printing. Downloading the courses will allow
you to print and read the text for the courses without being connected to the Internet. You only need to be connected to complete the interactive quizzes. (Click here for instructions for downloading the courses.)
If I am viewing the course online, what
else can I do to display the pages faster?
If you have a slow Internet connection,
please review our suggestions for improving
your viewing speed, provided in our Support
Center.
Can I receive course credit or certification?
Unfortunately, you cannot receive course
credit for completing the online courses. If you pass the final
quiz of the Infection Prevention course, you can print a Certificate
of Completion.
Have the courses been translated into other languages?
The Infection Prevention course is available
in Spanish. None of the other courses have been translated yet.
Can I reproduce all of part of any one of the courses? Material from the courses may be reproduced and distributed without permission, as long as EngenderHealth is acknowledged as the source.
Whom do I contact about other questions
or problems?
Each online course contains a Help section,
which you can access at the bottom of every page of the course.
In addition, answers to some technical questions are provided in
our Support Center. If you
have a question or problem that cannot be resolved by consulting
either of these areas, e-mail EngenderHealth's Webmaster at webmaster@engenderhealth.org.
