Making It Work!

This section is designed to help you find ways to apply the content of this module to your everyday work.

  1. Reference. The following CDC guidelines for treatment of STIs contain information on laboratory tests, drugs used for treatment, and related information pertaining to the management of common STIs.
    • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 1998. Guidelines for treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. MMWR 47(No. RR-1). Download PDF version.
  2. Sample Partner Notification/Referral Cards. Partner referral may be enhanced by the use of special cards given to the client to pass on to his or her other sex partners, which can also help clinicians provide prompt diagnosis and treatment when partners come to a facility for care. The following are three sample cards used for this purpose.
    • Sample 1: Card Used in Cameroon in Pre-packaged Prevention and Therapy Kit for Urethritis
    • Sample 2: Partner Referral Slip Used in Zambian Antenatal Clinics for Women with Reactive Syphilis Serology
    • Sample 3: Contact Tracing Card Used in Zimbabwe
  3. Educational/Counseling Aids. The following reference cards are designed to help enhance the effectiveness of your services by reminding you of important information to share with your clients. One set of cards is designed for use in sites in which syndromic management is used, the other set for sites in which etiologic management is used. See the introduction of each set for more information about using these cue cards.
