Summary

The high social, economic, and human costs of STIs clearly show the need to develop more effective STI policies and programs and to better integrate STI prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services into existing health care systems:

The scale of the STD problem is too great to be dealt with in specialized STD centres alone, and steps must be taken to expand and integrate STD management in primary health and other health centres.
