Purpose of This Module

Call Out This module has been designed to give health care providers essential information about the common STIs and RTIs they will most likely encounter during client visits. In this section, we list the most common signs and symptoms of these infections, as well as their potential complications.

To successfully incorporate the management of STIs and RTIs into reproductive health services, providers need to know what STIs and RTIs are, how they differ from one another, and how to recognize the signs and symptoms that indicate that a client has an STI or RTI. However, providers must also be aware that some STIs and RTIs are asymptomatic.

In this module, we will:

  • Identify and briefly describe the most common STIs/RTIs
  • Identify the most common symptoms of STIs/RTIs
  • Discuss asymptomatic infections
  • Identify the serious complications that can result from untreated STIs/RTIs
