Understanding Sexuality

Answer to Case Study #1:

Ms. W is equating anal sex, a sexual behavior, with homosexuality, a sexual orientation. Couples use a variety of pleasurable sexual behaviors in their sexual practice—the variety can satisfy the expression of their sexuality and keeps encounters interesting. Adding new behaviors to sexual practices is part of growth and may not indicate a difference in sexual orientation. Some heterosexual couples may choose to have and may enjoy anal sex.

Ms. W’s husband could be homosexual if he has feelings of attraction to men rather than women, but this cannot be determined from his interest in performing any one sexual behavior.
