Answer to Case Study #4:Explain to Salim that his partner’s concern is natural and common. Explain that the risk of heart attack from sexual activity is low. It is not uncommon for people with a history of heart conditions to experience irregular heartbeats during sex, but rarely does this cause a problem. Encourage Salim to invite his partner to go with him to the next doctor’s visit to discuss his concern. Offer to talk with Salim’s partner to explore the concerns if that would be more acceptable.
