The development of this online minicourse—which is part of a three-year project to deliver Web and CD-ROM training to staff working in health facilities in the developing world—was made possible through a generous grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. EngenderHealth would like to thank the foundation for its continued support of this pilot project.

The content of this course is based in part on EngenderHealth’s Self-Instructional Module: STIs, HIV/AIDS, and Sexuality, written by Dr. Mark Barone and Julie Becker and produced in 1999. EngenderHealth would like to thank the EngenderHealth staff and colleagues who developed, reviewed, and tested this module for providing the solid content on which this course was based.

The repurposing of the module as an online, self-instructional minicourse was accomplished through the efforts of a number of EngenderHealth consultants and staff. Much of the original content for the course was written by Betty Farrell, with the assistance and review of content experts Dr. Mark Barone, Julie Becker, and Peter Twyman. Additional writing, content repurposing, and instructional design was provided by Joanne Tzanis, who also served as team leader for this project. Additional reviewers for all or part of the course included Robert Becker, Pamela Beyer Harper, Andrew Levack, Dr. Isaiah Ndong, and Jill Tabbutt-Henry.

Elizabeth Sharp, Joanne Tzanis, Michael Perkins, and David Silverman were responsible for the coding, scripting, HTML specifications, and design of navigation and interactivity in the course. Virginia Taddoni, graphic designer, provided graphics and developed the clean and lively user interface for the course. Karen Landovitz provided project oversight during the later stages of development and production. Cassandra Cook assisted in the production coordination of the course. Margaret Scanlon provided editorial and production assistance.
