HIV and AIDS online minicourse

Basic Navigation: Using the Course

The navigation in the course is designed to be as simple as possible, while providing a number of options for getting around quickly. The most important navigational elements are described here.

Getting started
You can access all elements of this course on the course home page. You may want to bookmark the home page and return directly to it whenever you want to resume the course. It is recommended that you begin by first reviewing the introduction to the minicourses, A Sexual and Reproductive Health Approach.

Index page
On the home page and most other pages in the course, you can go to the Index to move directly to a particular section of the course. Information in the Index is arranged by topic and module.

Modules
All modules are numbered and listed on the course home page in a preferred order, but you may complete the modules in whatever order you prefer. Simply click on the first module title on the course home page to begin the course. At the end of each module, clicking the “Next” icon takes you to the first page of the next module.

Each page of each module is numbered in a list at the top of a page. As you move through the module, the page you are currently reviewing will be highlighted in this numbered list.

Each of these numbers is also a link, so you may also “jump” to another page in the course by clicking the numbered link.

Optional links
Some pages also contain “optional branches”—that is, links to information that is more in-depth than or is tangential to the topic presented in the module.

Often these links contain tables or detailed lists that may pertain to only a small number of users. These links are identified by this symbol and a brief text description of the link’s content:

Informational link

At the end of the branch, you will find a link back to the same place in the module where the optional branch occurred. If the content of the link does not apply to your particular situation, you may choose not to click on it: Content in the optional branches is not generally included in the module quiz.

Quizzes
Most modules contain brief quizzes that give you an opportunity to test your knowledge on that module’s topics. Quizzes are optional, and you can skip the quiz in the module by clicking the “Next” button or by clicking the numbered link for the next page. You may retake quizzes as often as you like.

Features
Most modules contain two kinds of special features:

  • Case studies. These cases allow you to apply what you have learned in a course to real-world situations.
  • Making It Work! This section is designed to help you find ways to apply the content of this module to your everyday work. This section often contains resource materials designed for you to print out and share with clients and co-workers. This feature is designed to be used after you have read through the content of the course, but can be reviewed at any time you feel ready.

For ease of reference, you can access all the “Making It Work” sections for the course by using the links to these features from the course home page.
