No-Scalpel Vasectomy Curriculum Now Available

AVSC International is pleased to announce the publication of No-Scalpel Vasectomy: A Training Course for Vasectomy Providers and Assistants and the second edition of its best-selling publication No-Scalpel Vasectomy: An Illustrated Guide for Surgeons.

Vasectomy is one of the safest and most effective contraceptive methods; worldwide, over 40 million couples rely on vasectomy. The no-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) is a refined surgical technique that offers distinct advantages over traditional incisional methods. NSV reduces the risk of bleeding and hematoma, causes less damage to the tissue, takes less time, and may decrease men's fear of vasectomy since no scalpel or stitches are used.

Extensive Training Experience

AVSC has trained doctors in over 30 countries in no-scalpel vasectomy. The curriculum and illustrated guide capture this experience and make it available to surgical trainers and clinicians around the world.

The curriculum is designed to train vasectomists and vasectomy assistants who provide NSV. It emphasizes the information needed to provide safe and effective NSV services and provides for extensive practice time. The curriculum is designed to be used by trainers who are skilled, experienced NSV providers and who have previously conducted skills training.

The material was developed and field tested with input from vasectomy experts representing several countries, including Bangladesh, Canada, China, and the United States.

Complete Package

Throughout the course, participants refer to the illustrated guide as well as a participant's manual developed exclusively for the curriculum. The trainer's binder includes extensive trainer's notes, a copy of the participant's handbook, a knowledge assessment test, a clinical skills checklist, over 60 slides, and a series of transparency masters.

AVSC will provide the curriculum and illustrated guide at no charge to our programs in the developing world. The material is available for sale to organizations and individuals in developed countries. The trainer's guide is $100; the illustrated guide, $20; the participant's handbook, $10. To order, see our Publications list.
