The RESPOND Project
EngenderHealth is the managing partner of the project Responding to the Need for Family Planning through Expanded Contraceptive Choices and Program Services (RESPOND).
Supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), RESPOND expands family planning services and improves reproductive health in developing countries.
RESPOND aims to increase access to a range of contraceptives, with particular focus on long-acting and permanent methods. These effective methods (implants, IUDs, and male and female sterilization) remain underutilized in many developing countries, even though they are safe, convenient, and cost-effective.
RESPOND follows a holistic model:
- Improving the quality and supply of family planning
- Strengthening the demand for family planning among clients
- Advocating with local officials for supportive policies and increased resources
