On June 5, Dr. Ann Blanc, Director of the EngenderHealth-led Maternal Health Task Force, moderated a Congressional Briefing called “Africa's Future: Improving the Health of Mothers and Children.” With speakers from the Population Council and Partners in Population and Development, the discussion highlighted persistently high maternal and child mortality rates in the region and effective strategies to curb these needless deaths.
Topics included trends in population growth, contraceptive use, and maternal mortality in African countries; low levels of international funding for reproductive health services other than HIV; and the real-world consequences of this lack of support on women and families in the region. The presentations are available below in Adobe Acrobat/PDF format.
