Communities across South Africa participated in Men As Partners® (MAP) Week from March 20–28. The national campaign, held annually and organized by EngenderHealth, is designed to motivate boys and men to take action against HIV and gender-based violence. This year’s theme was personal transformation, and stories of men and women whose lives have been changed by MAP and gender awareness were featured at events throughout the country.
Major EngenderHealth-led events included: the MAP Week launch; a forum on fatherhood; a youth seminar; and special sessions on men’s wellness and on “positive living.” These events were complemented by a host of other events organized by members of the MAP Network and partners, including community-based workshops, mural painting, and drives to encourage voluntary HIV counseling and testing.
