UPDATE: thanks in part to your response to this alert, Congress proposed a major boost in funding for international family planning.
On July 16, the House State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Sub-Committee will determine U.S. funding levels for international family planning programs in the 2009 budget. We need you to act now.
Despite a growing need and demand for family planning in the developing world, U.S. funding for international family planning and reproductive health programs has declined by nearly 40 percent over the last decade. The Bush administration has called for even greater reductions in the 2009 budget. According to the latest estimates, 201 million women of reproductive age in developing countries wish to either space births or end childbearing but are not using a modern method of contraception. With sufficient funding, these women will be able to access contraceptives, and better plan their families and their futures. Act now.
