Good housekeeping is the foundation of good infection prevention. The general cleanliness and hygiene of a facility are vital to the health and safety of clients, staff, visitors, and the community at large. Objectives
When you complete this module, you should be able to:
- Define housekeeping and explain its purpose.
- Describe the three kinds of cleaning solutions and how each is used.
- List at least three general housekeeping guidelines.
- Describe how to clean up spills of blood and other organic matter.
- Compare the different housekeeping activities in low-risk areas, client-care areas, and latrines or sluice rooms.
- Explain why fumigation (disinfectant fogging) and the use of UV light are ineffective housekeeping practices.
NOTE:
Good housekeeping reduces microorganisms, reduces the risk of accidents, and provides an appealing work and service-delivery space.
