All of the infection prevention practices covered in this training course--from handwashing to waste disposal--contribute to reducing the risk of infection in clients, health care workers, and the community. This module emphasizes some specific infection prevention practices that can reduce postprocedure infections in clients.

Objectives
When you complete this module, you should be able to:

  • Explain the general concept of aseptic technique for prevention of infection during clinical procedures
  • Explain the following approaches to reducing risk of infection during clinical procedures:
    1. Client prep (preparing a client for clinical procedures)
    2. Maintaining a sterile/high-level-disinfected field
    3. Use of safe operative technique
    4. Maintaining a safer environment in the surgical/procedure area
  • Describe the proper procedures for use of multidose vials
