EngenderHealth's Online Infection Prevention Course

Other options for getting the IP materials

This Infection Prevention Course is designed for online use; however there are also four other options for getting EngenderHealth’s Infection Prevention training materials in a format that does not require an internet connection:

How to Download the Course

Downloading the modules for this course will allow you to read the text for the course without being connected to the Internet. You only need to be connected to complete interactive quizzes.

The download version of the course is a 1-megabyte "zip" file (a compressed file) that can take less than 10 minutes to download using a 28.8 modem (or less than 20 minutes using a 14.4 modem). If you get disconnected from the Internet while the course is downloading, you will need to reconnect and start the download over again.

To download the course, please follow the directions below:

Windows and Macintosh users:

Before downloading the course: In order to open the "zip" file, you will need a program on your computer that can open compressed files, such as WinZip or MacZip. These are "sharware" programs: If you do not already have one of these programs, you can obtain them free of charge at the following shareware.com Web pages (and at several other locations on the Internet): WinZip - for Windows. MacZip - for Macintosh.

To download the course:

  1. Click on the following link: ip.zip
  2. You will be asked to select a destination to save/download to, we suggest you choose your desktop.
  3. Once the 1-megabyte ip.zip file has fully downloaded, you can open it with WinZip or MacZip to install the course files.
  4. The different programs use slightly different terms, but you should choose to "expand" or "extract" all of the files in the ip.zip file.
  5. The course files will be placed in a folder titled "ip". We suggest you put the "ip" folder on your desktop, but you may also chose a different location when prompted. You can always move the "ip" folder to another location once it is installed.
  6. To begin the course, simply open the file named "index.htm" in the "ip" folder using a web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
