Secretary Clinton Reaffirms U.S. Support for International Family Planning and Reproductive Health
On January 8, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated in the strongest terms that the United States is committed to helping achieve universal access to reproductive health and reaffirmed the country’s support for the health and development goals (PDF, 528kb) agreed to at the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, Egypt, in 1994. EngenderHealth joined a coalition of more than 20 like-minded organizations in applauding Secretary Clinton for signaling renewed U.S. leadership in this arena. We urge you to thank Secretary Clinton for her leadership.
Special Screening of A Walk to Beautiful
EngenderHealth Board member Frances Snedeker is hosting a screening of A Walk to Beautiful, in Westchester, NY, on January 19. The award-winning documentary tells the story of five Ethiopian women who suffer from fistula and embark on a long journey to recovery. The film screening will be held at Mamaroneck High School, LMC-TV Studio 1, on Tuesday, January 19, at 6:30 p.m. Following the film, EngenderHealth Senior Program Associate Carrie Ngongo will lead a discussion about obstetric fistula. New Ideas to Improve Global Maternal Health

Dr. Ana Langer Recognized for Her Leadership
EngenderHealth’s President, Dr. Ana Langer, was recognized as one of the ' 21 Leaders for the 21st Century 2010’ by Women’s eNews, an independent daily online news service reaching 30,000 subscribers. Every year, Women’s eNews selects and honors 21 outstanding people who have improved the lives of women and girls worldwide. This year, Dr. Langer was chosen for her leadership and dedication to improving the health of women and families in some of the world’s poorest communities. U.S. Boosts Funding for International Family Planning
In December, President Barack Obama signed an appropriations bill authorizing a significant rise in funding for international family planning. The allocation, $648.5 million, is an increase of more than $103 million, or 19% above the 2009 enacted level. Read more.
Obama’s Proposed Guidelines Keep Antiprostitution Loyalty Oath Requirement
EngenderHealth joins the public health community in opposing the new regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regarding the Antiprostitution Loyalty Oath. The Obama Administration released new guidelines at the end of November, and though slightly different from those issued under President George W. Bush, they still require organizations to have a policy explicitly opposing prostitution. Read more.
